Now, I read Opal by Jennifer Armentrout back in December, ordering up a hot plate of e-copy the day before it released or something like that. I would’ve reviewed this back then, but I was
And CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE get me a can of… soda. Orange soda. My drink of choice, yeah.
Ok, So What Had Happened Was: Katy was doing a pretty stand-up job of throwing oil at my angry fire. I mean, there’s hard to get and then there’s BEING DUMB ENOUGH TO RESIST DAEMON BLACK FOR MORE THAN FIFTY PAGES. I got that she wanted to be all headstrong, independent, and capable, but this is when heroines need to just stop trying so hard. Because that’s when they fail at all their girl hopes for themselves. And because of her bad choices in Onyx, there are a ton of repercussions, including a very strained (to the point of nonexistent) relationship with her bff, scathing looks from her alien betters, and the culmination of Dawson’s disappearance, which had set the ball rolling back before there ever was a Katy. On the plus side, Daemon’s not repulsed by Jerkface Katy and we have a relationship on our hands. Will Katy and Daemon’s love survive the massive disasters awaiting them? I don’t know because Armentrout WON’T TELL ME.
‘Tis no secret that I read this series PURELY for my Daemon Black fix. Not to say that the Lux series doesn’t have other things to strut about, because it does (see: action-packed plot, supernatural conundrums, fun characters). But, other than the fact that this series is posi-lute-ly addictive, there’s not much that sets it a part from other YA paranormal romance series. Take Katy, for instance. ‘Sides the fact that she’s a fellow book blogger, her character traits aren’t unique to female main characters in a similar situation. Though she grows, she reacts to most situations the way you’d come to expect. There are no surprises.
In spite of all the unremarkable stuff, though, it’s hardly a bother to get near-terminally invested. The characters may not be outstanding or super unique, but they’re fun, amusing, and have great dynamics. They’re like the earrings to the story’s awesome new blouse—they make for eye-catching accents. And while Daemon possesses the arrogance some of you may be resistant to, no one can quite pull it off like Daemon. Like Jace, he has his own special brand of cockiness and goes about it in a way that’s endearing and sexy and unique to his person. And let’s be real here: he’s totes the star of our rampant fantasies among fictional men. Don’t be ashamed.
For some of you, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. Mainly I’m here to say
about the ending. Because never in my few years as a book blogger have I been so certain of an ending and still have found myself stupidly and completely SURPRISED by it. Your grandmother can figure out where the plot is leading our feisty, eager-for-alien-blood main characters even WITHOUT her bifocals. And YET.
What had me reacting so strongly, methinks, was the reactions of the characters to what was happening around them. Because, OBVS, they had no idea what tragic occurrence was about to befall them. They had NO reason to think that Blake the Flake would… you know. I WON’T EVEN SAY. All I will continue to say is: Armentrout, WHAT THE CRAP do you expect me to do with my sad, irritable self until you decide we’re allowed to have the rest of the story?!
I'm gluing on more wood onto my six-foot club, so WATCH YOUR UNREPENTANT HEAD.
I bought an e-book copy hot off of Amazon.

I'm laughing, because the ending didn't bother me as much as it seems to have everyone else. Actually... it didn't bother me at all! :P
But oh, poor Ash, you read an Armentrout book before a test?! That's NOT a good idea. Ever.
Oh, flippin' flip. Don't read Armentrout's books before writing a test. Or doing a project. You'll end up like me; singing to yourself while rocking back and forth in a dark corner of an alley.
And the earring/blouse reference is gold. I've never thought of describing characters in that way . . . *strokes non-existent mustache while pondering the relationship between jewelry and shirts*
AND HA HA HA. I HONESTLY DIDN'T SEE MARCO THERE. *shivers up my spine* It's like one of those photos where the creepiest things pop up!
Bahahahaha! Oh man! I have to read Opal. I am so behind (don't beat me!) and I need to know this ending!! Great review. You had me laughing so hard!

Ok, so I skipped over your whole post because I haven't read it yet and didn't want to read any spoilers, no matter how small. BUT HOLY SHOOT, that ghostly dude on the cover?! Freaking me out right now. Once you see it you can't unsee it! Gahh!
I saw the title of this post and KNEW it had to be about Opal because GODDAMN THAT ENDING. WHAT THE HELL. WHY WOULD SHE LEAVE IT THERE, WHY?! WHY DO THESE THINGS HAVE TO HAPPEN? WHY DON'T I HAVE THE NEXT BOOK? WHHHHY? And dude, we're like, twins, because I read this before an exam and was totally unable to concentrate due to that. Your review is basically everything I have to say about this book and then some. Love it!
HOW HAVE YOU REMAIN UNRUFFLED? It's because of Brennan isn't it? *spits* She's ruined you for everyone else.
I KNOW THAT NOW. What was I even thinking, I do not know have a freaking clue. I don't know how I sanctioned my own actions.
It's my own stubborn and persistent stupidity that put me in that situation. I have NO ONE to blame but Armentrout.
Don't think on it too much, it may start to lose logic. My thoughts have tended toward that conclusion many of times.
I KNOW. Which is totes why I purposely made sure YOU ALL were forced to see it.
The club is purely reserved for the madwoman who has DARED to make my life more difficult and my brain less responsive for a substantial span of time. You're safe. For now. My suggestion would be to get caught up AND QUICKLY.
And I'm so glad to see that my emotionally distraught cyber self AMUSES you.
I PROMISED NO SPOILERS THOUGH. That ghostly dude is DEFINITELY a major reason to read the book.
THAT. FREAKING. ENDING. So obvs and expected AND YET. I always suspected that regarding our births. It's the only logical explanation. AND OH MAN LIZ I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!
