Ya'll remember when I did the cover reveal for Jennifer Armentrout's sexytastic alien series installment number three called Opal, no? I'd come out of my hidey-hole with as much enthusiasm as Squidward copping an attitude after numerous Spongebob Interruptions... Oh, BALLS, I'm supposed to insert a joke here. That wasn't very funny was it? Hate to drop this on you like a toilet seat, but I'm tapped out of me comedy gold at the moment. I could use this super awesome trailer as an excuse for the brain meltdown, but I won't. Overly much.

Spoiler-Free ARC Review: Onyx
The following review contains
NO SPOILERS!
NO SPOILERS!
my thoughts in a few sentences: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed in Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Obsidian is a fast-paced, entertaining, and sexy story about a boy and his sister in hiding, and about the new girl next door who uncovers their secrets. That line of the story may be the typical paranormal book plot, but it REALLY worked as a whole. The first book is addictive, strong, and the paranormal element is a nice little side bit. But, my focus is, and will always be, Daemon and Kat’s relationship. I liked the slow-burn Sexy Times tension in Obsidian, and the promise of a challenge for Daemon to work up to in Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout. But, Kat’s OVERABUNDANCE of RESISTANCE got to be irritating and with an obvious plot device feel. It distracted me from everything else that was going on, and ultimately brought down my enjoyment of the book. HOWEVER. The last hundred or so pages do REALLY WELL for making up for that.
hooking first lines: "Ten seconds passed between when Daemon Black took his seat and when he poked me under my shoulder blade with his trusty pen. Ten whole seconds."

ARC Review: Cinder
Cinder
I was exquisitely surprised by this book! Cinder is billed as a revitalization of the Cinderella fairy tale, and while it has undertones of a fairy tale retelling, the overarching plot is so much more than that! I don't even know what to dub this one: sci-fi? dystopian? paranormal? It really is a striking, albeit crazy mash-up of things, as if Meyer plucked elements from different genres and rearranged them meticulously into her own unique tale. Cinder, the MC, may be portrayed as the renowned mechanic, with a penchant for breathing new life into the dull, the irreparable. But when I think of Cinder, I envision Meyer with a toolbelt and a mask to resist flames, rebuilding something that has been done before, a retelling of Cinderella like no other, plugging and twisting and tightening the nuts and bolts of a fascinating new thing.
Cinder makes an extraordinary Cinderella! At a glance, there are subtle and concrete allusions to the Cinderella tale we all know and love throughout the book, and it's the same with the heroine, but there's so much more to it than meets the eye. On the surface, Cinder has got the Cinderella life, working and submitting to brutal "chores" for a stepmother who doesn't love, want, or appreciate her, a girl who doesn't classify herself as beautiful and lacks inward confidence that we recognize when she attempts to hide her... eccentricities. But, she's also loyal, hardworking, with the makings of true spunkiness, and, despite her life being in terrible jeopardy in multiple instances, emanates a disarming bravery and strength that endears her to us all the more. In the depths of her thoughts and feelings, there is a girl with hopes for acceptance, but on the outside she gathers to her a formidable illusion of cool confidence.
One evil Lunar queen who governs a vicious race, one mad scientist who owns the keys to Cinder's mysterious past, one dashing prince with a desire to do right by his people and growing feelings for Cinder, one death which cuts deep, later and Cinder gives us a riveting story about loneliness, loss, and the will to do what is right despite the life-altering consequences. My only true disappointment with the book is the romance with the prince. I found the slow development to be sweet and full of promise, but I'm holding out for much more in the ensuing sequels. I mean, IT'S THE PRINCE. There has to be a breathstealing romance!
With simple, yet elegant writing, entrancing, detailed world-building that draws in even the skeptical reader who repels sci-fi and the like, and a main character that tugs at the heartstrings, Cinder is a one-of-a-kind, gripping debut that is everything it says and infinitely more! A debut novel that has made my favorites list from a debut author I can't wait to see more from! Really, what will she come up with next?

About the Book:
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.
In this thrilling debut young adult novel, the first of a quartet, Marissa Meyer introduces readers to an unforgettable heroine and a masterfully crafted new world that’s enthralling.
The screw through Cinder's ankle had rusted, the engraved cross marks worn to a mangled circle...

Review: Obsidian: A Lux Novel
Obsidian: A Lux Novel
Jennifer Armentrout has dived into the sparkling pool of Young Adult Fiction and, by her creative hands, has created spectacular ripples with her latest releases, Half-Blood and Obsidian. It's so very difficult to resist the allure of the hype that is buzzing over her books. And I'm so grateful that I didn't waste too much time trying to and that I succumbed relatively early. Katy - spunky teen, fellow book lover, and resident book blogger - wants to remain okay with moving to Middle of Nowhere, West Virginia just before her last year in high school, leaving behind all that she's known and everything her late father loved in good ol' Florida. Since her father's death, Kat has done her best to refrain from causing troubles for her mother and has been succeeding, leading an average, normal, safe life. But stopping next door for directions to the nearest grocery store and meeting a devastatingly handsome, yet brutally rude guy brings the unexpected and the supernatural right to her still untarnished doorstep.
Between being verbally attacked by the sexy, standoffish Daemon and being ambushed by the bubbly, ingenuous Dee, the Black twins leave Kat with her head spinning. Who are the Blacks and why is Daemon so intent on pushing Kat away from a fast-forming, though premature friendship with his exuberant and oh-so-lovable sister? Fending off Dee would be a remarkable feat because she has such an attractive personality. A shade wide-eyed and adorably friendly, Dee is a sweet, lonely girl earnestly looking for a "normal" companion. She finds that in Kat and their ensuing bestfriendship is cute and fun, a necessary relief from the sexual tension humming in the air and the distressing, suspicious murders of young girls in what's supposed to be a plain, boring town (isn't that always the way? :P).
Enjoyable to read, the paranormal element and mystery unfolds in perfect proportions. But what really turned me on to the book, and what has stuck with me during the few days after I finished it, is the exciting relationship connecting two characters who simultaneously hate and delight in each other. The best part of a love/hate romance? A sarcastic or teasing comment can snowball into an avalanche of Sexy Times that are sure to catapult your blood pressure to soaring heights. Kat and Daemon don't get along under regular circumstances, but when the quiet and the dazzling night wrap them in a warm embrace, and it's just them and no one else, there's a spark that kindles swiftly and passionately and sweeps the two together until we're all breathless.
There's an addictive quality to Armentrout's writing, an unidentifiable something that's present and gifts us with a spicy, intense page-turner that I blew through in a matter of hours. Waiting only 6 months for Onyx shouldn't be too terrible...
Hopefully.
Maybe.

About the Book:
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
I stared at the pile of boxes in my new bedroom, wishing the Internet had been hooked up. Not being able to do anything with my review blog since moving here was like missing an arm or a leg...

I wished I had something clever to say, maybe even a little flirty, but his intense stare sent any coherent thought scattering.
Confusion flashed in his eyes as he leaned forward, his lips parting slightly. "I think I understand now."
"Understand what?" I whispered.
"I like to watch you blush." His voice barely above a murmur as his thumb traced circles on my cheek.
He lowered his head, resting his forehead against mine. We sat like that, the two of us, caught in something that hadn't been there before.(61-62)
"I checked out your blog."
Oh. Dear. Baby. Jesus. How did he find it? Wait. More importantly was the fact that he had found it. Was my blog now Googleable? The was awesomesauce with an extra heaping of sauce. "Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?"
"In your dreams, Kitten." He smirked. "Oh, wait, I'm already starring in those, aren't I?"
I rolled my eyes. "Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares." (97)
