Booking Through Thursday & Iron Queen Teaser (2)

Basically every Thursday you are to head over to http://btt2.wordpress.com/ to visit the Booking Through Thursday Blog and copy and paste the question of the day. Then, comment with a link to your response and voila! You've done it. You've just participated in this interesting Thursday meme.

This week's question: What’s the largest, thickest, heaviest book you ever read? Was it because you had to? For pleasure? For school?

Answer: I'd definitely have to answer that Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl was the longest book I've ever read as it has a whopping 563 pages. Though, I have to admit it took me a long time to actual get to read it. I have this problem where I get intimidated by how large a book is and it tends to scare me away from reading it. Hence, why I hardly ever pick up super thick books like that. The only real reason I did grab a library copy of this one was because I'd heard so many great things about it. Same thing with Nevermore, which I have not read yet but do have on my bookshelf thanks to the library, but have you seen that book? That one has five hundred something pages also! Killing me softly, seriously. But, anyway, Beautiful Creatures was so deliciously wonderful that I'll be more than happy to read the monstrous 503-paged sequel, Beautiful Darkness...

Please don't misunderstand. I'm team Ash!
"'This place smells like blood,' Ash murmured, his eyes darting about the camp...'Looks like the war isn't going well for us.'
'That's what I like about you, prince. You're always so cheerful.' Puck shook his head, gazing around the camp, and wrinkled his nose. 'Although I will say, this place has seen better days. Does anyone feel like they're about to hurl, or is it just me?'
'It is the iron.' Grimlaking picked his way over a puddle, then leaped atop a fallen tree, shaking out his paws...
Puck snorted. 'Doesn't seem like it's affecting you too much, cat.'
'That is because I am smarter than you and prepare for these things.'
'Really? How would you prepare for me tossing you into a lake?'" (138).

I think the problem with thick books often is that they are not edited so well. They don't have to be so thick, often there's lots of useless information in it that lengthens the plot even though the story doesn't need it. Even though I enjoyed both Nevermore and Beautiful Creatures I thought both would've been better if they had been shorter.
