I always eat the crust off my sandwiches before eating the middle.
#2
I always wanted to be a writer, but growing up I also dreamed of being a Broadway actress and a rock star. Unfortunately, I cannot sing or play any instruments.
#3
I can’t whistle.
#4
I make a really killer grilled cheese sandwich, except my husband always complains that it takes too long. People don’t realize that the secret to a really killer grilled cheese sandwich is that it must be grilled slowly.
#5
I wrote my first story when I was four or five years old—I told it to my mom and she typed it up and printed out the pages for me to illustrate. It was called “Rosie and the Rosebush.”
"Ma, I GOT this. GAWD!" |
#6
My bookshelf is organized by color.
#7
I’ve owned two VW Beetles named Tux and Rampion.
#8
I made a birdhouse in 7th grade for a school project. My parents hung it up in the backyard and birds actually moved in and it lasted for like 10 years. I was really proud of that.
#9
I had a book of poetry self-published when I was 15. It was filled with teen angst and sap and the poetry was really, really awful. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
#10
I love antique shopping and walking through old houses.
#11
I collect vintage cake plates and domes. I now have seven, plus three stands without domes.
#12
I also collect old tins, but I wish I would stop.
#13
My first job was as a hostess at the restaurant where my parents met.
#14
I worked as an editor for after college, then a freelance typesetter and proofreader, before becoming a full-time writer.

Given that cork is endangered, I feel bad throwing wine corks away. Instead I put them in an old antique produce scale. Currently, I have 1.25 pounds of corks.

I can't whistle either! I basically just blow a lot of air and spit around and make not one high pitched noise:) The husband thinks it's hilarious, he can whistle like it's nobody's business. Bastard ;-) And I had no idea cork was endangered! Learn something new every day:) Such a fun post, thanks for sharing those tidbits Marissa!
Oh, I love learning random facts about people! =)
I have this strange faux-birdhouse thing that I also made in gr. 7... and it's still on the front porch (I'm now 25), though my grandpa just had to fix it up/re-paint it
P.S. I love Marissa's Jane toque!
I wonder if you can recycle corks? I mean, have them get reused? They really should work on that. And I would feel bad throwing them away too!
I dreamed of being a singer too but I couldn't (well still can't) sing in front of people. Those childish dreams of ours... we should work on conquering the ability before we plan our future.
Totally awesome post! LOVED Cinder!
Love this! I can't whistle either! My dad is always whistling a tune and I get so frustrated that I can't do it :P. And I'm seriously tempted to organise my bookshelves by colour now - seems like a great idea! Fab post, thanks :).
It took me a long time to learn how to whistle, it was such an accomplishment when I was a teenager and I discovered the trick, everyone looked at me like a loser though haha. I love vintage cake plates!! But I doubt I would have anywhere to store them if I collected them!
This is a fantastic Fact Session, loved reading it!

OMG! People who can whistle freak me out, but only because I can't do it and am secretly jealous. And how cool to have worked at the restaurant where your parents met.
Fun facts! Thanks for sharing. :)
I love learning weird, wacky and random facts about authors... or anyone, really! I'm actually the opposite of #1 - I try to save some of the crust for last because I love it best. And awww #5 is so adorable - Rosie and the Rosebush would have been an amazing story, no doubt ;)
Love this post!
Very fun & cool info!
This is so cool! I'm going to try and get my hands on Cinder this week- I NEED to read that book! (:
Very very cute post! And it's nice to see from the post and comments that I'm not alone! I can't whistle either, haha
