Hotly Gratifying: 5/19 - 5/27

In which I feature some really cool book releases and categorize them in good fun.

Colored with a Highlighter

Kelsey Finkelstein is fourteen and FRUSTRATED. Every time she tries to live up to her awesome potential, her plans are foiled – by her impossible parents, her annoying little sister, and life in general. But with her first day of high school coming up, Kelsey is positive that things are going to change. Enlisting the help of her three best friends — sweet and quiet Em, theatrical Cass, and wild JoJo — Kelsey gets ready to rebrand herself and make the kind of mark she knows is her destiny.

Things start out great - her arch-nemesis has moved across the country, giving Kelsey the perfect opportunity to stand out on the soccer team and finally catch the eye of her long-time crush. But soon enough, an evil junior’s thirst for revenge, a mysterious photographer, and a series of other catastrophes make it clear that just because KELSEY has a plan for greatness… it doesn’t mean the rest of the world is in on it.

Kelsey’s hilarious commentary throughout her disastrous freshman year will have you laughing out loud—while being thankful that you’re not in her shoes, of course…
Moment in the Sun: Kelsey's First Kiss
“…He lunges in, and suddenly his tongue is flopping around inside my mouth like a fish dying on a dock.
I think I may be choking to death. He tastes like…rum and Coke and spearmint gum. And panic. If a tongue could sweat, I think his would be.”

I don't do dangerous. Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back. Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me.... NIGHTWATCHERS When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...
Why? A couple of weeks ago, I finally admitted to myself that I bought my ticket to Angels RULE Camp a LONG TIME AGO. I had to stop fooling myself, and my excitement for books like Dark Kiss is exactly the reason why I had to wipe myself down with Charmin because the bullshizz was getting too foul. And THE COVER. 'Nough said.

DESCRIPTION MAY SPOIL BOOKS ONE AND TWO

Bryn knows first-hand that being the alpha of a werewolf pack means making hard decisions, and that being human makes things a thousand times worse. She's prepared to give up her humanity, but the wolf who promised to Change her is waiting - though for what, Bryn doesn't know. Still human, she must take her place in the werewolf Senate, the precarious democracy that rules the North American packs. Standing side by side with werewolves who were ancient long before she was ever born is enough of a challenge, but Bryn soon learns that the Senate has been called to deal with a problem: the kind of problem that involves human bodies, a Rabid werewolf, and memories that Bryn, Chase, and the rest of their pack would rather forget. With bodies stacking up and political pressure closing in from all sides, Bryn and her pack are going to have to turn to old enemies and even older friends for help - especially when it starts to look like this time, the monster might be one of their own.
Why? Barnes's Raised by Wolves series isn't the kind of series where when a new installment comes out, you work yourself into such a state that you physically shutdown the moment it's in your frozen stiff hands. BUT, it is a series to unleash grating-on-the-ears *squeeing* until your nearest neighbor mentally gives you a slapdown.

Genre Mood of the Moment: Paranormal
Recommended Treatment:

"I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did! But this book is, seriously, HILARIOUS."

"Of Poseidon by Anna Banks isn’t totally lighthearted, good underwater fun. The romances—yes, Anna gives us the benefit of two—are steamy with tension build-up, tangled up with misunderstandings, and has this pervading sweetness."

Looking to Try:

Just released in paperback edition...

I can't tell you how long I've wanted to read this series! I keep hearing about the stunning and sheer EMOTION in Young's books! Another angel story, just FYI.

Go figure.

I think Kelsey wins the award for experiencing the most un-sexy kiss ever LOL. Ewww! But then Dark Kiss makes up for it by making us all... do a dance with ants in our pants hehehe <3 LOVE the cover! And I was wearing my ANGEL'S RULE badge after my first fluffy-winged book. Not bragging. Just stating a fact. *is bragging*

I NEED to read the sequel to Raised by Wolves already because I really enjoyed the first book. And well, I need a new wolfy series to get hooked on!

I *still* need to read 'A Need so Beautiful' and I really want to, because I remember everyone talking about how good it was when it first came out.

Oh yes, Kelsey Finkelstein is one of my most favorite characters EVER! My arc was full of little notes when I loaned it to my sister. It was one of the funniest books I have ever read!

OMFG, and just WAIT until you see what a douche the kid is. I mean, he was secretly crushing on her forever and he turns around and acts like a loser. I'm reading Dark Kiss right now and it's okay so far. I'm hoping it goes for a more unique approach to the typical paranormal. I LOOOVE THE COVER. So interesting.

*steals badge* HAHA. I neeeed the third book. I think it's supposed to be the conclusion and I want to know how Bryn and Chase's story ends.

YES. Doesn't it just make you wish your wallet was STUFFED TO THE BRIM? *sigh* It does LOOK good, and so far it's doing alright, as I'm reading it right now. I'm just waiting for the uniqueness factor.

HEHE. I DIED WHEN I READ THAT.

So do I! It's a total shame how I haven't even STARTED this series, despite how much good I've heard of the whole package.

Asher Knight said...

YAY. *high fives* So do I.

I KNOW SO DISGUSTING, AND YET SO FUNNY. And like I said to Brodie, wait til you read how much of douche the kid turns out to be. UGH. But the book is so hilarious and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Dark Kiss needs to up the unique factor a bit. I need a little more.

YESSS. I'm not a big fan of wolfies but JLB's series is about the only ones I can tolerate, enjoy, and get superengrossed in. Bryn IS DA BOMB. And I missed Callum in the last book. I felt like he was only there in spirit or something, which is UNFAIR for us fans.

And the whole book is MADE OF WIN. I couldn't stop laughing. At night. In bed. And my sisters wanted to kill me! XD

She is so much fun! Her and Chloe from Welcome, Caller, This Is Chloe would be great friends and great to watch go head to head on humor! I can't wait to write my review, because it was so freaking hilarious.
