PFS2012 Blogger Guest Post: Lauren from 365 Days of Reading

Lauren’s Fantasy Favorites
I’ve always been drawn to fantasy, both in YA and adult fiction. There’s something about it that makes it impossible to ignore! I’ve put together a list of YA fantasy must-reads—if you’re a fantasy fan and haven’t yet read these, I highly recommend that you do!

The old:
Dreamhunter by Elizabeth Knox: Another world overlaps our own in a certain spot, and only a few people have the ability to cross the invisible barrier. Those who can enter collect dreams and bring them back to share with their town. But when someone accidentally brings back a knightmare, chaos ensues.

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder: A young criminal is offered a reduced sentence if she takes the place of the Commander’s poison taster.

Graceling by Kristen Cashore: Children born with different-colored eyes possess “graces”—a special talent. Katsa’s grace is killing, and she’s being used.

The new:
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers: Death’s handmaidens assassinate enemies of the state. But one girl isn’t so sure that they’re killing the right people.

Chime by Franny Billingsley: Briony has spent her whole life pretending that she isn’t a witch. But her town’s modernization is angering the Old Ones, and she is the key to keeping everyone safe from their wrath.

Huntress by Malinda Lo: Kaede is the only one who can stop the world from dying. To do so, she must embark on a journey of a lifetime.

Mistwood by Leah Cypess: Isabel is the Shifter, a shapeshifting being who only emerges from the misty forest when the kingdom needs her. Unfortunately, Isabel doesn’t remember anything, including what she is supposed to do to help keep the peace. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows: Ana is the only person in her community who isn’t reincarnated. She’s a new soul amongst thousands of old ones. Shunned, she ventures to the city of Heart, where her fate will be decided.

The future:
Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff: Set in a steampunk feudal Japan, Stormdancer follows Yukiko, a girl ordered to find a legendary thunder tiger and deliver it to her leader. (Sept 2012)

Defiance by C.J. Redwine: Rachel’s father is declared dead after her fails to return from a mission outside the walls. Rachel knows her father has to be alive, and sets out to find him. (Sept 2012)

I feel like such a happy dork right now, because Lauren's blog is one of my all-time favorites to read and stop by daily, so that makes Lauren one of my favorite bloggers, and it makes me ridiculously happy that we share so many of the same fantasy loves. It's such an amazing feeling to share the same or pretty darn similar reading tastes!
