5 Reasons Why I've Fallen in Love with Kiggs
Every once in a while a romantic interest comes along and steals my heart away like a thief into the black of night.

Okay, maybe not quite like that.

But seriously, some YA romantic interests are made of awesome.

Case in point: Seraphina’s Kiggs (aka Prince Lucien if you’re being all hoity-toity about it).

I present:

5 Reasons Why Kiggs Rocks My World

1. He’s well read in ways similar to Seraphina. How epic would it be to get into debates with a really cute guy over books you’d both read? Mindblowing, that’s how much.

2. He is not emotionally invincible. Sometimes, fictional guys come across as overly tough. A heroine says something mean, on purpose or not, and the guy brushes it off with a snide remark or laugh. Not Kiggs. You say something hurtful and he, get this, gets hurt. A bit of vulnerability makes a guy seem so much more approachable. If you’re anything like me and can literally crush on a guy for months and never say hello, approachability is good. Really good.

3. He doesn’t go around blatantly pointing out other people’s faults. Thank goodness for people who let others keep a small modicum of their pride. When he doesn’t point out the fact that Seraphina can’t ride worth a hoot, he doesn’t make a big deal out of it. In fact, he barely mentions it. I wanted to hug him.

4. He gives books as gifts. I can’t decide which idea I like better, number one or number four. I mean, a guy who proactively adds to your reading addiction rather than asking you why you don’t get rid of a few books? I want one.

5. I am not overwhelmed by his loverboy skills. This is not to say he wouldn’t make an awesome loverboy. In fact, I’m sure he would. But as Asher pointed out in her review, Seraphina and Kiggs relationship falls under the category of “friendship, with underlying spark” for a good long while. And the ability to get to know him, without any initial pressure of Him and Her being the most important thing in the book is fantastic.

I know I've been saying this a lot, but, Melanie, your posts is one of my favorites of the whole event! You listed precisely what I ADORE about Kiggs so well. And you brought up a few good points I didn't even think on until this moment. You should run an ongoing campaign for different future book boyfriends, because if I hadn't read this book, I'd already be sold on Kiggs. Which leads me to a little pimping of the book - if you haven't read Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, go do that! Now.
