Middle Ground by Katie Kacvinsky Blog Tour Stop + Giveaway

This blog tour for Middle Ground by Katie Kacvinsky was put together for us bloggers by The Readiacs!
Middle Ground by Katie Kacvinsky is without a doubt one of my favorite books of the year! Kacvinsky blew me away with Awaken, but then proceeded to blow my mind into smithereens with this new sequel. Which is, of course, why I am fangirly-excited to have Maddy, the main character in the series, stop by today on the blog! And with her, some awesome prizes are sure to follow thanks to the fantastic and super generous peeps at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, so keep your eyes peeled!
You’ve faced a tremendous amount of challenges and hard-won battles for what’s right throughout the series so far. With that in mind, what’s actually the most surprising event or actions of a person you’ve encountered that has impacted you thus far?
M: Most surprising? That’s easy. When my own brother ratted me out to the cops and handed me over to the LADC. I wanted to disown him, but, it ended up being one of the best things that could have happened.

Awaken is a really fitting title for the first book in the series. You really do “awaken” to the truth, slowly rise out of a meaningless sleep and begin blooming. In Middle Ground, you really come into your own, flourishing even more as a person, becoming brave and determined. What’s something you’ve done or have learned about yourself in this second book that has surprised even you?
M: I never realized that I like the feeling of fear so much. I actually thrive on it—it energizes me. My dad will be thrilled with this discovery, I’m sure.

Justin is a large part of your story, a beautiful one. But, even before he came into your life, I don’t believe you were fully satisfied with your life. Without him being the catalyst that changed everything, do you think your life would’ve changed, that you would’ve changed as much as you have without his appearance in your life, especially in the beginning?
M: I think Justin was the key to why I changed. People shape us more than our environments. It’s the people in our lives that affect us the most—they can make us miserable or small or weak. They can also make us happy and energized. People have the biggest impact.

Beyond your rebellion against the DS, do you have a goal or have a picture in your mind for your future? Who do you want to be part of that future?
M: Yes, I have a crystal clear picture in my head of what I want, which scares me, because I want it all. I want to chase all of my dreams and I don’t ever want to have to settle. Why settle?

Now, much like Awaken, Middle Ground concludes beautifully but arguably in an open manner. Could you tell us if there will be a sequel and perhaps speculate as to where it might takes us—you, Justin, the rest of the characters, and us readers—next?
M: Yes, the story is definitely not over, but, it is getting close. There are a lot of loose ends to tie up, a lot of secrets to discover and many more near-death escapes (since that’s how my life appears to roll). There’s also a DS system to overthrow. That’s quite a to-do list.

Kacvinsky totes has me under her spell. Because even though Middle Ground did not end in a fists-raised-to-the-heavens cliffhanger, I'm too excited to name other words to describe my feelings for the next book. I know that if I were you right now, I'd do anything for a copy.

Lucky for you boys and girls at home somewhere in the vast US, you are eligible to win a copy of Awaken, the first book in the series, Middle Ground, and Katie's recently released teen romance novel, First Comes Love. Why am I not you right now? Also, "one blog will be chosen for a grand prize winner of a signed copy of Middle Ground and Maddie's Journal," though I'm not completely sure how this is going to work but I'm sure someone will tell us when the time comes. Enter below, and good luck!

" I want to chase all of my dreams and I don’t ever want to have to settle. Why settle?" That is a great goal in life, I definitely feel the same. Great interview!
