Adrian slowly sat up, eyes wide. "Sage," he said. "What are you wearing?"

I sighed and stared down at the dress. "I know. It's red. Don't start.
I'm tired of hearing about it."
"Funny," he said. "I don't think I could ever get tired of looking at it."
Those words drew me up short, and a rush of heat went through me. (235)

Because you asked:
I did it because he wasn't fair to you. Because you deserve credit for what you've done. Because he needs to realize you aren't the person he's always thought you were. He needs to see you for who you really are, not for all the ideas and preconceptions he's built up around you." The power in Adrian's gaze was so strong that I kept talking. I was nervous about meeting that stare in silence. Also, part of me was afraid that if I pondered my own words too hard, I'd discover they were just as much about my own father and me as Adrian and his. "It should have been enough for you to tell him who you are - show him who you are - but he wouldn't listen..." (244)
"You aren't going to go crazy," I said firmly. "You're stronger than you think. The next time you feel that way, find something to focus on, to remind you of who are."
"Like what? Got some magic object in mind?"
"Doesn't have to be magic," I said. I racked my brain. "Here." I unfastened the golden cross necklace. "This has always been good for me. Maybe it'll help you." I set it in his hand, but he caught hold of mine before I could pull back. (245)
"Why would you do that? Why would you act like you didn't know how to drive?"
"Isn't it obvious, Sage? No, of course it isn't. I did it so I'd have a reason to be around you - one I knew you couldn't refuse. (413)
"You have no clue how beautiful you are or how brightly you shine." (415)
The Golden Lily
by Richelle Mead
The second thrilling installment in Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy spinoff series...

Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students--children of the wealthy and powerful--carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Richelle Mead's breathtaking Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive. In this second book, the drama is hotter, the romances are steamier, and the stakes are even higher.

Teaser Tuesday (1): Demonglass

Teaser Tuesday comes from MizB at Should Be Reading and is open to anyone. There are a few basic rules to this, though, in order to participate in this meme:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
And that's really all there is to it... Now, that we've got all of that covered, I'd like to reveal my teasers for this week...

Demonglass (Hex Hall #2) by Rachel Hawkins
Release Date: March 1, 2011
Publisher: Hyperion Books CH
Pages: 359

"Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?"

Here are my teasers:
"'Why did you want to bring Cal?' I asked.
Dad's fingers strayed to his suit pocket again. 'Council business, mostly. Alexander's powers are unique, so we'd like to interview him, possibly run a few tests.'
I didn't like the sound of that, and something told me Cal wouldn't either.
'And it will give the two of you a chance to get to know one another better,' Dad continued.
A sense of dread slowly began creeping up my spine. 'Cal and I know each other well enough,' I said. 'Why would would I want to know him better?'" (18 |359).
"Anyone who could block Prodigium Defense moves was a lot more dangerous than some random pervert. I was about to try Skill Fifteen, which involved both breaking his nose and potentially ending his chances of ever having kids, when my captor bent down and whispered in my ear, 'Don't even think about it, Mercer'" (130 | 359).
