Waiting On Wednesday April Edition: Dorothy Must Die & To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Ah, when was the last time I did a WoW post? I used to love doing these every week, before I complicated matters here and tried to tweak things. Whatever happened to just having fun with this? Well, that's just what I'm going to try to get back to.

I love this meme because it helps me narrow down and sort through my bookish desires. By prioritizing certain releases, I have a nice list of things I want to read next. And if there's one thing I love doing it's gotta be list-making.

Dorothy Must Die was an easy choice, the first book to come to mind when I thought on releases I desperately wanted. At first, it was really all about a title like that. I don't think there's anyone who can resist that title, and let's not forget to mention that cover. Hence all the buzz I'm sure.

Then you've got a supremely unique twist on the classic story, one whose anniversary hits this year, and I'm all anxious excited for what this undoubtedly inventive tale will bring.

Plus, I've already begun the prequel and it's so gooood.

Now try as I might, it has never been the perfect time to start Jenny Han's previous triogy. Every summer I start to reach for it and then lose the urge on the way. I guess it's because the premise never really captured me, and the only reason I want to read it is due to the amount of love there is for the books.

But this time around, well, this is EXACTLY my kind of premise. There's going to be all kinds of character growth and everything, yes, but I just love the idea of a main character finding herself bombarded by old crushes, ones who may have actually felt something back.

It's going to be so emotional and will do all kinds of things to my heart, and I can't WAIT.

*insert world-weary sigh* I hate waiting, don't you?

My Big, Fat TBR Pile [21] aka (sort of) Waiting on Wednesday (and every other day)

There's a common theme running like a track star through Paranormal Indulgence: obtaining books by the look of the cover instead of on merit or substance. Don't give me that look. I'm not changing for you. I'm terminally superficial. The good news is that because this blogger is a self-proclaimed cover whore, your eyes will never come across anything wanting. Come join me in staring. Then, thank me after.

(Like most people, I never fail to show off my dazzle-inducing desires every Wednesday. I was sick so HAVE MERCY.) (More)

Most Wanted:

As you may have already noticed, I haven't been doing Big, Fat TBR Pile posts for a bit, and that's mostly because I've decided to do it as a monthly thing. As it turns out, I LIKE DOING THINGS WITH MY WEDNESDAYS. And I don't like having to scramble for a pick every week. INSTEAD, I can kind of store up and then BOOM, have a bigger post with all my newest additions to my wishlist for the month. SO. I have FIVE picks this week. CHECK out them apples.

Black City by Elizabeth Richards

Putnam/Penguin,
Nov 13th 2012
A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war. In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable--they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash's long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they're caught, they'll be executed--but their feelings are too strong. When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.

Why I Want to Read It: Do you remember when EVERYBODY was talking about this book? Was that so long ago? Anyway, mad peeps did AWESOME cover reveals for this delectable-looking book, and with it, they also posted a sample of the first chapter. AND I LOVED THAT FIRST CHAPTER. I loved it SO HARD. At first, I was all, Whaaa? Then, I was like, WOW. So I'm super to the triple power excited for this book!

The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson

Greenwillow/HarperTeen,
Sept 18 2012
In the sequel to the acclaimed The Girl of Fire and Thorns, a seventeen-year-old princess turned war queen faces sorcery, adventure, untold power, and romance as she fulfills her epic destiny.

Elisa is the hero of her country. She led her people to victory against a terrifying enemy, and now she is their queen. But she is only seventeen years old. Her rivals may have simply retreated, choosing stealth over battle. And no one within her court trusts her-except Hector, the commander of the royal guard, and her companions. As the country begins to crumble beneath her and her enemies emerge from the shadows, Elisa will take another journey. With a one-eyed warrior, a loyal friend, an enemy defector, and the man she is falling in love with, Elisa crosses the ocean in search of the perilous, uncharted, and mythical source of the Godstone's power. That is not all she finds. A breathtaking, romantic, and dangerous second volume in the Fire and Thorns trilogy.

Why I Want to Read It: Can we just... DISCUSS the amazeball covers in THIS SERIES? Hot darn, they are so EFFING PRETTY. The kinds of covers you want to lean over a guardrail, facing impending doom, to touch. They are dazzling, and I need to own the first book. BECAUSE I SO BADLY ADORED THAT FIRST BOOK. It's so... thorough, exciting, and vivid, this fantasy is. The world-building is exceptional, the characters lovable, and I WANT TO SEE WHAT CARSON IS TAKING US TO SHOP FOR IN THE ROMANCE DEPARTMENT. Because after TGoFaT, I'm wary of buying into the next trend so to speak.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

Dial/Penguin, June 14 2012
A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another...

“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”

The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over.

Why I Want to Read It: Nowadays, I'm really digging the contemporary romance genre. A lot of author peeps have got it GOING ON THIS YEAR, and, in particular, this summer. I just want to hug some of them. And I'm sensing Fitzpatrick will be my next huggable addition to my bookshelf. MLND looks so sweet and deep and heartfelt and wrenching. And I've heard such fab things about the Garrett family! Plus, gorgeous guy, new friendships, true love... I mean, REALLY, what's not to like, I ask you?

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes/Michelle Rowen

Razorbill/Penguin,
Dec 11 2012
In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power—brutally transforming their subjects’ lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:

Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.

Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished—and finds himself the leader of a people’s revolution centuries in the making.

Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past—and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...

The only outcome that’s certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

Why I Want to Read It: Betcha ya can't say EPIC FANTASY as fast, or as enthusiastically, as I can! I'm serious. But, gosh, I can't tell you how badly I want to read THIS BOOK IN PARTICULAR. I love all the ones here, already, but there's a certain special something here with Falling Kingdoms that I can't wait to devour. I love the characters' names and all their descriptions up in the summary! We're questing, there's power struggles, and THERE HAD BETTER BE ROMANCE. So it just landed triple check marks, make that quadruple with it being fantasy, on my MUST READ/PERFECT BOOK CHECKLIST.

Changeling by Philippa Gregory

Simon Pulse/Simon & Scuster, May 24 2012
Dark myths, medieval secrets, intrigue, and romance populate the pages of the first-ever teen series from #1 bestselling author of The Other Boleyn Girl.

Italy, 1453. Seventeen-year-old Luca Vero is brilliant, gorgeous—and accused of heresy. Cast out of his religious order for using the new science to question old superstitious beliefs, Luca is recruited into a secret sect: The Order of the Dragon, commissioned by Pope Nicholas V to investigate evil and danger in its many forms, and strange occurrences across Europe, in this year—the end of days.

Isolde is a seventeen-year-old girl shut up in a nunnery so she can’t inherit any of her father’s estate. As the nuns walk in their sleep and see strange visions, Isolde is accused of witchcraft—and Luca is sent to investigate her, but finds himself plotting her escape.

Despite their vows, despite themselves, love grows between Luca and Isolde as they travel across Europe with their faithful companions, Freize and Ishraq. The four young people encounter werewolves, alchemists, witches, and death-dancers as they head toward a real-life historical figure who holds the boundaries of Christendom and the secrets of the Order of the Dragon.

The first in a series, this epic and richly detailed drama is grounded in historical communities and their mythic beliefs. It includes a medieval map of Europe that will track their journey; and the interior will include relevant decorative elements as well as an interior line illustration. And look for a QR code that links to a note from the author with additional, detailed information about the setting and the history that informed the writing. With Philippa Gregory’s trademark touch, this novel deftly brings the past—and its salacious scandals—vividly and disturbingly to life.

Why I Want to Read It: EEP! EEEEEEP! HISTORICAL FANTASY. Gosh, it's been FOREVA since I've read one. And not by choice, I assure you. It's just I haven't manage to track down any good ones lately. And I'M CRAVING ONE. With Greggory's renowned-ness and the awesome year in ITALY WITH A BOY NAMED LUCA - ringing any of River of Time bells, anyone? - it's like a sign from the universe that I was meant to read this book.

Most Wanted:

TWO PICKS again this week! One is a sequel I just... *breathes deeply* am so IN NEED of. And the other gave me a tingly feeling all over cos coverlust CONSUMED ME. It's so... dazzling, the cover is a bedazzling gone right. I JUST LOVE THEM BOTH AND, you know, STUFF.

Timepiece by Myra McEntire

EgmontUSA, June 12th 2012
Do not read if you haven't read Hourglass!

A threat from the past could destroy the future. And the clock is ticking...

Kaleb Ballard's relentless flirting is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father, timeslips in and attacks before disappearing just as quickly. But Kaleb has never before been able to see time travelers, unlike many of his friends associated with the mysterious Hourglass organization. Are Kaleb's powers expanding, or is something very wrong?

Then the Hourglass is issued an ultimatum. Either they find Jack and the research he's stolen on the time gene, or time will be altered with devastating results.

Now Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the other Hourglass recruits have no choice but to use their unusual powers to find Jack. But where do they even start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough...

The follow-up to Hourglass, Timepiece blends the paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and suspense genres into a nonstop thrill ride where every second counts

Why I Want to Read It: Myra McEntire took the time to email me a few days ago about my review on Amazon. TRUE. STORY. I'm still not off the HIGH of that, because I am the HUGEST gushy fangirl of Hourglass, it's CRAZINESS. Kaleb... Michael... Michael... Kaleb. Emerson is one INSANELY LUCKY girl, because those boys are FINE, a delight to the eyeballs, I'm sure, with perfectly flawed personalities and sexy styles and their own personal charm. I just... It's hard when you flip back and forth between two guys, because the guilt is so acute as is the need to EXPLAIN YOURSELF. But, I CAN'T HELP MYSELF. They are two of the most perfect male specimens! And Emerson, girl, you are FIRE. Amazing and eye-catching! We got along SO GOOD in Hourglass.

I de-de-definitely can't wait to see what's in store in Timepiece, de-de-definitely.

For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund

Balzer + Bray/HarperTeen, June 12th 2012
Generations ago, a genetic experiment gone wrong—the Reduction—decimated humanity, giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

Elliot North has always known her place in this world. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family’s estate over love. Since then the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress, and Elliot’s estate is foundering, forcing her to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth—an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliot wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she let him go.

But Elliot soon discovers her old friend carries a secret—one that could change their society . . . or bring it to its knees. And again, she’s faced with a choice: cling to what she’s been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she’s ever loved, even if she’s lost him forever.

Inspired by Jane Austen’s persuasion, For Darkness Shows the Stars is a breathtaking romance about opening your mind to the future and your heart to the one person you know can break it.

Why I Want to Read It: If I walked around with this cover stapled to my face, wouldn't you think I was beautiful? You know, once you got passed all the metal and shizz. I'd be irresistible and such a catch. I was so blind-sided by the cover that the summary eluded me for QUITE A WHILE. For reals.

Slight confession time: I've never read a book by Jane Austen. I'm just one of those smart people that sucks at appreciating classical literature, because I'm either just not smart enough, have no patience, struggle with the language and hate having to resort to spark notes like it's Google Translator—take your pick and try to be kind. But a kind-of-sort-of retelling mixed with post-apocalyptic deliciousness? Yeah, I am SO DOWN WITH THAT. Gosh, and I'm so digging this sexily transformed Kai who is now the CAPTAIN OF EXPLORERS.

I ask you, why on this good earth WOULDN'T YOU want to read this book? It would save me a considerable amount of time if you'd give me an explanation, because I'm slow like that.

Do not read if you haven't read Obsidian!

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

Why I Want to Read It: Come on, you had to have seen that one coming. I don't know what to do anymore. I am so desperate not to look desperate to the pubs but MAN I DESIRE THIS BOOK. I ADORED Obsidian, the first book in the series, and I would willingly give myself a paper cut, TWICE, drink a half cup—okay, no, a quarter of a cup—of prune juice, put my face next to a whole slew of magentas as in the flower—at least, that's what I think they're called—and I'M ALLERGIC, just FYI. I would do all of this if it entertained someone enough to give me a copy. TRUE. FREAKING. STORY.

Black Dawn by Rachel Caine

Do not read if you haven't read the Morganville Vampire series 1-8!

The hotly-anticipated twelfth instalment in the Morganville Vampires series

In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires... their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House: Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire, to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever.

Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet!

Why I Want to Read It: Show of hands, which of you non-Aussies cried big fat ugly tears when they saw this up on NetGalley for AUSSIES ONLY? Everything I touched became damp from my tears. I felt like someone gutted out my heart and now A HUGE DREADFUL SPACE is there. I don't even know what to do with myself. And how AMBIGUOUS IS THAT SUMMARY? It does little for fans of the series ready to kick, scratch, and claw each other to get their hands on a copy. I love *sniffles* this series so much, I read it all in a week! The agony is too much *holds up hand*. I must cease.

Most Wanted:

So I requested this book from a publisher/publicist about a month ago and still haven't heard back from them, but I'm still hoping for the best! Because, hey, that's me, the grotesquely optimistic sort. But, I'm SO IN LOVE WITH the idea of BORN WICKED by Jessica friggin' Spotswood. And it happened after I read this excerpt. I think it's pretty damn obvious who I would like to win next month's Blogger's Choice. ;P

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

Putnam Juvenile, February 7, 2012
A Great and Terrible Beauty meets Cassandra Clare in this spellbinding fantasy.

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

Why I Want to Read It: I mean that one-liner at the top alone would totally suck me in. But combine that with the cover and THE ACTUAL SUMMARY, and I'm completely hooked. I've been seeing some fantastic buzz for this novel. Plus, I read a short excerpt for the book and I'm totally sold on the characters already. Is that pathetic or amazing?

Winter Break Reading List Edition:

If you're a regular at my blog, you know that I'm a high school senior and, up until January 3rd (*does happy dance*), I have winter break right now. Sooo, of course I compiled a list of books I want to read during my free time that I wouldn't normally have the time to read.

Some of the following books I either own or am in the process of acquiring, so In My Mailbox this Sunday should be fun :)

Dark Lover by J. R. Ward

Signet, April 11, 2007
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

Why I Want to Read It: This is indeed a Young Adult book blog, but I looove reading adult romance/paranormal romance books on the side when I have the time, and everybody seems to be terminally gaga for this series so I'm expecting awesome, awesome, awesome things. And, hullo, it's VAMPIRES. 'Nuff said.

The Glass series by Maria V. Snyder

Mira/Harlequin, 2010
This spin-off series of 'Study' series follows the adventures Opal Cowan, a glass magician who can trap magic inside glass. She crafts glass messengers for Sitia and helps with a glass crisis. Until the Stormdance clans orbs shatter, killing Stormdancers and leaving the coastal residents in life-threatening danger. Opal must find the true recipe for the orbs and fix them - fast. But as one crisis ends another begins when Opal is kidnapped trying to rescue Kade, a handsome Stormdancers captured by evil warpers. Trapped on the northern ice sheet of Ixia, with a huge storm close behind them Opal comes to terms with her death. She is prepared to sacrifice herself to save Kade...

Why I Want to Read It: I'm already deeply in love with Maria's work. Touch of Power was my first taste and WOW. So I went on to read her Poison Study series and I'm almost done and completely smitten (VALEK!). There's going to be a very short break after I finish Fire Study to Storm Glass.

When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Why I Want to Read It: Greek mythology retellings are MY THING. Love reading 'em, but lately I've been kind of disappointed in that department. Still, Cupid and Psyche's story is one of my favorites to read retold so hopefully it's as good as it looks. I bought this for $0.99 at Amazon for my Kindle!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Scholastic, October 1, 2008
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister Primrose, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before — and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Why I Want to Read It: Before you say it, I KNOW. But I was gifted the box set for Christmas with all three books inside and frankly, I've been craving these books so I'm out to read the first one very soon. Who else is excited for the movie? *raises hand*

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

MTV Books, March 7, 2009
HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge -- and over....

Why I Want to Read It: I'm a fan of Jennifer Echols, so I'm surprised that I HAVEN'T read this one. Especially with all the bloated hearts that explode every time someone mentions this book. John seems to make everybody drool and sigh dreamily...

Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have)
by Sarah Mlynowski

HarperTeen, June 7, 2011
2 girls + 3 guys + 1 house – parents = 10 things April and her friends did that they (definitely, maybe, probably) shouldn't have.

If given the opportunity, what sixteen-year-old wouldn't jump at the chance to move in with a friend and live parent-free? Although maybe "opportunity" isn't the right word, since April had to tell her dad a tiny little untruth to make it happen (see #1: "Lied to Our Parents"). But she and her housemate Vi are totally responsible and able to take care of themselves. How they ended up "Skipping School" (#3), "Throwing a Crazy Party" (#8), "Buying a Hot Tub" (#4), and, um, "Harboring a Fugitive" (#7) at all is kind of a mystery to them.

In this hilarious and bittersweet tale, Sarah Mlynowski mines the heart and mind of a girl on her own for the first time. To get through the year, April will have to juggle a love triangle, learn to do her own laundry, and accept that her carefully constructed world just might be falling apart . . . one thing-she-shouldn't-have-done at a time.

Why I Want to Read It: Another one I've heard great things about. It's supposed to be really funny and crazy, so I'm excited! This is another one I purchased for $0.99 over at Amazon.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
by Jennifer E. Smith

Poppy, January 2, 2012
Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Why I Want to Read It: I'm expecting an ARC to get here soon and guys... GUYS, I can't tell you how... FRIGGING... EXCITED I am for this book. I've been successfully annoying the crap out of my mom with phone calls and emails wondering if the package showed up... Please, get here soon!

And that's it for this week's glimpse into my TBR pile. I look forward to showing you more of what's in My Big, Fat TBR Pile.

A thrilling debut story of death, love, destiny and danger

Lenzi hears voices and has visions - gravestones, floods, a boy with steel gray eyes. Her boyfriend, Zak, can't help, and everything keeps getting louder and more intense. Then Lenzi meets Alden, the boy from her dreams, who reveals that she's a reincarnated Speaker - someone who can talk to and help lost souls - and that he has been her Protector for centuries.

Now Lenzi must choose between her life with Zak and the life she is destined to lead with Alden. But time is running out: a malevolent spirit is out to destroy Lenzi, and he will kill her if she doesn't make a decision soon.

My Big, Fat TBR Pile (11)

My Big, Fat TBR Pile is a feature in which I showcase future reads that can be found on my to-read pile. It's like multiple "Waiting On..." Wednesdays rolled into one, showcasing a mix of books new, old, and upcoming. I typically do this type of post when I'm too excited for words and NEED to unleash a peek at my wishlist. Mayhap, you will find yourselves as excited for them as I am.

Most Wanted:

The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong

HarperTeen, Available NOW

Sixteen-year-old Maya is just an ordinary teen in an ordinary town. Sure, she doesn't know much about her background - the only thing she really has to cling to is an odd paw-print birthmark on her hip - but she never really put much thought into who her parents were or how she ended up with her adopted parents in this tiny medical-research community on Vancouver Island.

Until now.

Strange things have been happening in this claustrophobic town - from the mountain lions that have been approaching Maya to her best friend's hidden talent for "feeling" out people and situations, to the sexy new bad boy who makes Maya feel . . . . different. Combine that with a few unexplained deaths and a mystery involving Maya's biological parents and it's easy to suspect that this town might have more than its share of skeletons in its closet.
