Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber:
The Picture of Dorian Gray meets Pride and Prejudice, with a dash of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
New York City, 1882. Seventeen-year-old Natalie Stewart's latest obsession is a painting of the handsome British Lord Denbury. Something in his striking blue eyes calls to her. As his incredibly life-like gaze seems to follow her, Natalie gets the uneasy feeling that details of the painting keep changing...
Jonathan Denbury's soul is trapped in the gilded painting by dark magic while his possessed body commits unspeakable crimes in the city slums. He must lure Natalie into the painting, for only together can they reverse the curse and free his damaged soul.
(Goodreads) I confess, I haven't read the aforementioned classics. Yes, yes, I know, terrible of me. Call me crazy, but I prefer my mind candy to literature. (YA is tons more fun.) But, THIS, a contemporary remake of a COMBO of the classics mentioned above as A YA NOVEL... that I will read. An added plus, is the fact that it's set in the late 1800s, my most favorite time period (besides The Roaring Twenties). I love that eerie air it gives off, and the mystery of how Jonathon Denbury got his soul sucked into a painting is enough incentive for me to read this book. Not to mention, that beautiful cover! My heart lurched in my chest at the sight of it!
Sass & Serendipity by Jennifer Ziegler:
For Daphne, the glass is always half full, a situation is better managed with a dab of lip gloss, and the boy of her dreams—the one she's read about in all of her novels—is waiting for her just around the corner.
For Gabby, nothing ever works out positively; wearing any form of makeup is a waste of study time, and boys will only leave you heartbroken. Her best friend, Mule, is the only one who has been there for her every step of the way.
But when the richest boy in school befriends Gabby, and Daphne starts to hang out more and more with her best friend, Mule, Gabby is forced to confront the emotional barriers she has put up to stop the hurting. And for once, her sassiness may fall prey to her definition of stupidity.
(Goodreads) I'm just chockfull of confessions today, because I'm about to make another: I've never read Sense & Sensibility. Jane Austen fans don't shoot! I just CANNOT get into books with thick language. My tiny brain revolts at the sight of it. But this variation of it I CAN read. I'm wondering who's going to fall for who here. And what the hell kind of name is Mule? Weird. But attractively weird. Hmmmm, we shall see where this one will lead. I'm always in the mood for a good love story!
And that's all I've got to showcase for this week's Waiting on Wednesday. Smack me, good-naturedly, with your thoughts!

I completely agree with you, I haven't read Sense & Sensibility either. I like the sound of Sass and Serendipity though! Great picks, and can I ask - what anime is that little image from? :P

Thanks for stopping by, all!
