My Big, Fat TBR Pile (8)

My Big, Fat TBR Pile is a feature in which I showcase future reads that can be found on my to-read pile. It's like multiple "Waiting On..." Wednesdays rolled into one, showcasing a mix of books new, old, and upcoming. I typically do this type of post when I'm too excited for words and NEED to unleash a peek at my wishlist. Mayhap, you will find yourselves as excited for them as I am.

The following links provided will lead you to Goodreads.com. (What is Goodreads.com?)

 Most Wanted:

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Reviews to Mention

by Hopelessly Devoted Bibliophile
Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.
Fresh Faces:

SHATTER ME was great, and I just purchased POISON STUDY last week. Can't wait to read it!

I love your blog! New follower :)

Oh, you lucky blogger, you, for getting to read Shatter Me already. And I'm planning on heading to the library for Poison Study (book buying ban at the moment!).

Gosh, thank you

(Sometimes I breeze through blogs so fast, I don't always pay attention to what I'm doing. I forgot to follow you before - liked your blog a lot too - but I just rectified that.)

Shatter Me! I NEED that book. I have to read it. Now. Soon. Some time in the future. It just looks so, so good! I've heard a lot of good things about Poison Study too. So many books, so little time...

Marathon said...

Leia- Happy to help! And I'll be over soon to check out your pick!

Rebecca- It just has that drool-worthy cover and the freaking AMAZING synopsis. I've been reading reviews everywhere and they just convince me more and more to pick it up.

Oh, thank you ♥ (I love hearing that. What blogger doesn't?)

LIZ ♥- I've missed your stopping by and I've been frequenting your blog of late. Have you read those awesomesauce reviews for Shatter Me? I want to squee every time I see the book. I know what you mean about too many to handle. The reading pile grows larger every week *sigh* But, I love it :)

"Shatter Me" looks fantastic. "Poison Study" is good-- I just need to get to the rest of the series. And I hear "Tithe" is also good, but it's languishing on the TBR pile right now.

Leanna Elle said...

Ahhh...everyone is talking about Shatter Me. Now I need to read it too!

I've also heard amazing things about How to Save a Life, but I didn't get to it when it was on Netgalley. Boo!

Jess said...

I can't wait for Shatter Me either.

Marathon said...

Jess- Don't think I'm not counting the days *lol* 13 more! :)

SQT- Shatter Me has to be fantastic. I can't be doing all this pining for no reason! I want to get to Poison Study and Tithe soon, before my to-read pile gets any larger.

Leanna :)- There's a reason everyone's talking about it, and it's because it's amazeballs. I don't doubt at all.

Speaking of NetGalley, I was rejected for Hallowed, sadly :(

Jess- *high fives* An epic read, undoubtedly. :)

So many great books! I read Shatter Me already and it was amazing!!! Definitely one of my favorite books this year. Thanks for stopping by.

Missie, The Unread Reader said...

Asher, I love how you set up this TBR post. I so need help managing my TBR and I'm trying desperately not to add to it, but it's so hard, especially because I just read a great review for Shatter Me and now I really want it!

Marathon said...

Traci- Ah, you're so lucky. But I'm glad you liked it so much that you favorited it this year. :) Makes me more excited and sure that this is going to be absolutely wonderful.

Missie- Thank you ♥ And I know what you mean about a grotesquely enormous TBR pile - I'm somewhere at 800 and can't seem to stop. And I've been reading so many reviews for it, that I feel like I'm foaming at the mouth for it *lol* You should just say screw it and add it in anyway. I don't think you want to miss out on it :)

Book Sake said...

Can't wait to read Shatter Me as well!

John The Bookworm said...

I love this TBR. I still have to read Shatter Me...I've heard nothing but good things (well, one bad thing, but there's always someone that doesn't like a hyped book.) Still, most say it's beautiful and indescribably amazing. How to Save a Life is also in said pile, and Poison Study. :)

And Tithe is really worth a read, especially if you have liked any other Holly Black books. It's very quick, dark, and just...so unusual, especially when consider that it was written and published early 2000's before all of the PNR craze came about.

danya said...

Poison Study is excellent! I strongly recommend that one :)

Sarah said...

I'm seeing Shatter Me show up EVERYWHERE. I actually read the synopsis for the first time yesterday, and I WANT it... I don't quite understand the cover, though. I was honestly thinking 'Oh, OK, it must be about some rich girl in New York or Milan who has a career in modelling'. She looks like she's catwalking. I was seriously thinking Gossip Girl, but with issues? Huh.

Having said that, I think the cover is gorgeous, just confusing.

Nea said...

This one is also on my WoW this week! :) Can't wait for this book to come out! :)

You have a beautiful blog!!

June G said...

Shatter Me is a great read. You'll enjoy it. I agree with Sarah. I read the story and I still don't get what that white dress has to so with anything. I kept waiting for a scene that had it, but I have yet to find it. Maybe I missed it. If you figure it out when you read it. Let me know! :-)

Marathon said...

Book Sake- It's just one of those books that inspires instaluv *lol*

John ♥- I haven't run across any negative reviews yet, but I'm not surprised they're out there. It's like you said, there's always a Negative Nancy dead-set against the hype. That's okay, though, I still want to read it ;) It IS supposed to be beautifully written and unique.

I haven't read ANYTHING by Holly Black :O But I heard that she basically started up the faerie trend in the YA market, so that got my interest piqued.

Sarah- Yeah, while gorgeous, for a lot of people the cover seems out of place. And at first, yeah, I thought, well how does one plus one make three, if you will. But, I stopped caring because, as you said, that cover is SINFULLY gorgeous.

Nea Barabea- I saw! We're Shatter Me buddies now ;)

And thank you so much ♥ Really.

June G- Maybe it's just to exhibit how beautiful this girl is and how her beauty shines after her break out, her obtained freedom...? Maybe it just represents her, you know...

Natalia- Thank you ~_^ You too have a fun blog! Yes, Shatter Me can't get here fast enough. Seriously.

And you as well :)

Kim said...

Thanks for stopping by!
Shatter Me looks amazing and I've only read good reviews about it so I can't wait for this to be released! Plus, it's a dystopia which just adds to how awesome I'm pretty sure this book is going to be.

(Oh and thanks for the comment about my blog design! I love yours as well!)

Marathon said...

Kim- You're absolutely welcome. I love visiting new blogs and possibly making new friends :)

It's dystopian, the heroine is bad-ass, and the cover is stunning, what's not to love?

(No problem, it's wonderfully refreshing and unique. & Thank you so much <3)

A Canadian Girl said...

I can't wait for Shatter Me either since every single review I've seen for it is either a 4 or 5 star. I've also got Poison Study on my wishlist.

I've seen mixed reviews for Between the Sea and Sky. Many people I know have said that it'll probably appeal more to the younger crowd.

As for The Poisoned House, there's not much romance in it. Sorry :(

Marathon said...

A Canadian Girl- I have yet to see a really bad review, too. It just seems to be that promising, THAT wonderful.

Yeah, some people say that BtSaS is good, some say bad, some say that, like you said, it's for a younger crowd. I'm not sure where I'll fall under, but I'm under the impression that this is about mermaids, and well, I have a fetish for 'em.

NO ROMANCE?! *gasps* Blasphemy!

Christy @ TheReaderBee said...

Shatter Me is SO good! I just finished it last night, and I'm amazed. :) Great pick!

Marathon said...

Christy- Oh, you are SO lucky to have been able to read it! *sigh enviously*

Jen R. said...

Ahh.... I want Shatter Me so badly! It sounds so good! :) Plus that cover... Between the Sky and Sea is on my TBR pile too! Its sounds like a cool book, doesn't it? ;)

Marathon said...

It's like this mouthwatering Insert Delicious-Tasting Food Here just on the other side of the window... and the people behind the counter go on break.

Between the Sky and Sea just sounds awesome all around. And if it's about mermaids, and well-told, it's an auto-buy. Definitely. :)
